The following is an appendix to the FreeDOS Spec. This section addresses how to report a bug.

FreeDOS Spec

Appendix, Reporting Bugs

Bugs that are discovered in the FreeDOS kernel or FreeDOS programs should be submitted to one of the following, in order of preference:

  1. The FreeDOS Bug List (note that there are different lists for the kernel, command.com, and the FreeDOS utilities.)

  2. The author or maintainer of that program, via email

  3. The FreeDOS mailing list

We welcome your comments, suggestions, and problem reports.

We prefer that all bugs be reported to the FreeDOS Bug List, as this provides a single place for all bugs. If the program's maintainer is not able to provide a fix right away, then someone else can look at the Bug List and know that a patch is required.

However, if you are not able to use the Bug List, then please use this form when reporting a bug in FreeDOS. Try to be as complete as you can, and always include your return email address so the author can contact you if more information if needed:

Changes to this document:

29 Dec 1999: Updated the contact list to show the FreeDOS bug list, and to drop the FreeDOS Coordinator. Also added more text before 'Required Information' to emphasize that bugs should be reported to the Bug List, but email is acceptable if you cannot use the List. Reformatted the bracketed lists so that they are separated with pipes (I think this is more readable.)

Jan 1999: Dropped the [HIGH] tag, because it was being confused with the [SEVERE] tag.

Sep 1998: First revision.
